The Number to Call, When You Don’t Know Who To Call.

Residents of the Concho Valley can now access information about health and human services by dialing these three numbers: 2-1-1. With 2-1-1 Texas, residents of Coke, Concho, Crockett, Irion, Kimble, Mason, Menard, McCulloch, Reagan, Schleicher, Sterling, Sutton, and Tom Green counties can find information, free of charge, on utility bill assistance, child care, program for the elderly, substance abuse intervention, mental health assistance, and job training as easily as they can get emergency assistance by calling 9-1-1 or a phone number by calling 4-1-1.

The Area Information Center (2-1-1 Texas) of the Concho Valley, based in the offices of the Concho Valley Council of Governments, is staffed by trained information and referral specialists.  Each specialist assesses the callers need in English or Spanish and has the ability to transfer in to a Language Line for interpretation of over 100 other languages. The specialists can also follow up with callers to ensure that they have been properly served or if there is still a need for further assistance.

2-1-1 Texas is part of a national effort to help promote self-sufficiency by making information about services much easier to find. Across the state, 25 Area Information Centers have been established to collect and maintain a database of local resource information.  Each center has the ability to connect callers to different 2-1-1’s across the state depending on the caller’s need.  Every center continues to expand its database of government agencies, food pantries, career services, after-school program, counseling services, and many other nonprofit resources in each of their regions.

Contact information for all Area Information Centers can be found at http://www.hhs.state.tx.us/tirn/aicsearch.asp

NOTE: Access to 2-1-1 is limited via cell phone at this time.  We continue to work on making 2-1-1 accessible for all cell phone users.  Please contact us at (325)223-5704 or toll-free at 1-877-944-9666.
